The finial was usually found on top of a wooden post or doll, and is most familiar from its use on the North Eastern Railway. The Taff Vale, Rhymney, North Staffordshire, Great Eastern, and Highland railways also used it, as did a number of Colonial railways. However, NE modellers will find SC003/2 more useful for slotted post signals, as this item has cast-in recesses for the slot plates.
